Classical Swine Fever (Hog Cholera)Classical swine fever, also known as hog cholera, is a disease caused by pestivirus from the family Togaviridae. Distinctive features in acute cases of this disease are diffuse erythema followed by purplish skin discoloration over the abdomen, snout, ears and thighs. In chronic forms, purple blotching of ears with generalized hypotrichosis are commonly seen.

Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory SyndromePorcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is a viral disease in pigs characterized by reproductive failure of sows and respiratory problems of piglets and growing pigs. It is caused by the PRRS virus, a member of Nidovirales order, family Arteriviridae, genus Arterivirus.

Ebola Reston VirusThe Ebola virus belongs to the family Filoviridae, an enveloped, filamentous negative-sense RNA virus that can cause a severe zoonotic disease in humans. In 2008, the Philippine government submitted samples to the USDA APHIS Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory from pigs that were affected by an unspecified pathogen. The tests revealed two known swine viruses and an Ebola strain that has never been seen in pigs or associated with livestock diseases. This strain is called the Reston ebolavirus.

TrichinellosisTrichinellosis is a parasitic disease in swine caused by the nematode Trichinella spiralis. It is of public health importance as it can infect humans by consuming insufficently-cooked, infected meat. Most mammals are susceptible but swine is one of the most usually involved with the disease.
